Leccino olives are native to Tuscany, where they have been cultivated since the Middle Ages. Their name likely derives from the leccio (holm oak), an evergreen oak typical of the Mediterranean scrub. Indeed, the elongated shape of Leccino olives resembles the acorns of the holm oak, hence the name.
